One of the most popular creatures mentioned in most Japanese anime are Demons. In most cases, they tend to demonstrate that demons are not evil creatures (Example, Naruto). But then demons are subject to darkness, evil and bad deeds. An anime that reminds us of that is Demon Slayer. Demon slayer is pretty self-explanatory; slaying evil demons. Yes, I say evil demons. The setting takes us to the era of swords in Japan. But Japan is plagued with human-eating demons. The MC(main character), Tanjiro got his family massacred by the father of all demons. In his pursuit for revenge, he meets all sorts of demons. Some are very plain and others pretty intelligent. We shall hence list some intelligent (brain usage, techniques, fighting skills and strength) demons in demon slayer.
1. Tamayo
In simple words, Tamayo is a prodigy. A demon that succeeded in breaking off the control of her genitor. She created a demon that does not feed on humans. Her greatest deed is the serum that reversed Muzan’s condition and caused rapid ageing (Whoopsie! Spoiler here). That merits the first position among the intelligent demons in Demon slayer
2. Muzan
The father of demons, author of the massacre of our MC’s family, and number one most feared demon among demon slayer corps. Survived for hundreds of years based on acute ingenuity and overwhelming strength. Example of his deeds is him shapeshifting into a kid and being catered for by humans. He comes as the second intelligent demon among the demons due to the fact that he was duped by one of his creations (flaws of all strong characters).
3. Akaza
Another intelligent demon is this guy. The upper moon three, Akaza. He is in the third in this list of intelligent demons in demon slayers because he holds the third position among the upper moons (Did you get that? Upper moon 3 – third position in the list). Just kidding. But seriously, this demon’s appearance brought about the death of a pillar demon slayer. He fights with his bare fists, with each punch targeting a vital point (talk about precision, raw intelligence). He associates raw knowledge and combat skills (just listen to the name of his art: Battle compass. Too good), literally a combat genius. Clearly fits in among the intelligent demons in demon slayer.
4. Yushiro
Next in our list is the demon Yushiro. Doesn’t feed on humans, too smart for that. A medical demon, who can literally bring someone back to life due to his medical techniques (he learned from Tamayo herself). His blood art technique enables a perfect camouflage. Can be used for escape or intelligent sneak attacks (just too convenient for a smart ass). Merits his place among intelligent demons in demon slayer.
5. Enmu
The craftiness and ingenuity in battle earned this dude a position among the intelligent demons in demon slayer. As lower moon 1, He puts people in sweet dreams giving them hope, then traumatizes them with their worst nightmares. In order to kill some slayers from the demon slayer corps, he went as far as to fuse with a train. Gaining hostages and ‘fodder’ at the same time, making him difficult to kill. This clearly shows how he puts everything on his side in order to secure a win.
6. Rui
Among the lower moons, this demon is shown to be extremely powerful. His intelligence rotates around his strength. He made up himself a surrogate family with predefined executable tasks. His intelligence is for survival, given that he literally cut off his head in order to avoid a lethal cut (those are mad survival instincts). Due to that, he is among the Top intelligent demons in Demon Slayer.
7. Yahaba and Susamaru
Two heads are better than one, so the saying goes. It is verified with these two demons. We have the head, the thinker, the direction (literally) named Yahaba. And We have the muscles, the rock, and the strength named Susamaru. Each compensated the other with their cursed techniques. We have the demon Susamaru (meaning a young looking girl who plays by throwing a ball…), as her name implies, has a cursed technique to materialize a ball and throw it with a lethal speed (Yushiro can attest to that.). Yahaba (width of an arrow), also as his name implies, will give the ball all sorts of direction combinations. Really the perfect team, hence find themselves among the top intelligent demons of demon slayer.
8. The Hand demon
The presentation of this demon during the airing of the demon slayer anime got me scared. His intelligence is based on survival for the fittest. Really easy right? Know your place in terms of strength and attack only those who are weaker than you. This is why he was found only where test exams for trainees were conducted. But then, though it is really ingenious it has its limits. You never know if among the ‘weak’ trainees an encounter might be fatal. Just for that ingenuity, he earned a place among the top intelligent demons of demon slayer.
9. The swamp demon
Who says hiding is not an art? Maybe someone also thinks that hiding during a fight is being a coward? If that is your thought, then tell that to all those ninjas who strike from the shadows. This demon excels in blending with the shadows and is capable of holding it with stronger opponents. That is clearly intelligence. Though it is a very limited way to fight, it still works (All assassins in anime fight that way). Though intelligent, the swamp demon is very weak, that is why he is cited as the last among the top intelligent demons in demon slayer.
